Hi,
I will be coming to Phuket this summer as my wife will be taking a CELTA course. We plan to stay for 6 weeks (Beginning of July - Mid August). Much as I would like to spend my days diving and hanging around on the beach, I should do the sensible thing and look for work.
I am a qualified Secondary School Teacher (ICT) in the UK and have 2 years ESL experience (In China). However I would be willing to undertake any type of work, even voluntary, to keep me occupied
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

As you will be here only a short time - most schools will not be very interested (just my opinion).
Consider that there are quite a few teachers here trying to make their way - and if you start working for free - just to keep yourself busy - you are cutting them out of work.
So . . . I would suggest volunteering for someplace like Soi Dogs Foundation or the Gibbon Rehabilitation Program. There are lots of places that would be happy to have you do a little work. Look online at the Phuket Gazette (phuketgazette.net) and search their "Gazette Guide" for charitable organizations - there will be plenty of places where you can help out. |
