I am going to complete a TEFL course in April, and I was wondering what my chances are of finding a job after completing the course? I want to stay in Prague and work. What are the average salaries in the Czech Rep. for ESL teachers? I don't know what the academic periods are like in the Czech Rep, so will I still get a job in April or May? How much is rent in Prague? Probably a lot if you are in districts 1-3.
I can't wait to go to Europe, it will be my first time. Really my first time going anywhere, LOL...
Thanks a bunch! |

April or may is the best time to initiate contact with schools and perhaps make a short trip to visit and arange things but dont expect to get a paycheck until september. Business just starts slowing down in April and hits bottom in the ned of june-august.
Wages at a decent school start at 200 per hour. Note that's the BOTTOM of the scale - not average. Dont acept anything less. If you negotiate push for things like a 12-month rather than 9-month contract, a place to live at a reduced rate or free, subsidised meal vouchers, free transport pass, etc. These kinds of things are easier for a school to give than cash, so you're more likely to get them than a higher salary if you push. |
