I'm arriving in HCMC on the 30th of January at 10:30 PM and know that finding accomodation at that time of night could be problematic. I'd prefer not to have to move around too much, so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a place or 2 in or around Pham Ngu Lao or the TEFL school(I know they're fairly close) that might offer me a monthly rate along the lines of $5 a day that I could book beforehand. I don't necessarily need deluxe accomodations, obviously, but would like a little space to stretch out and hot water if possible, somewhere that is reputable and secure as well.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

I would recommend making a reservation in advance. If not then the taxi driver at the airport might try to take you to an expensive hotel where he can get a good commission from the hotel. I suggest that you e-mail some hotels before coming to Vietnam and ask them if they can pick you up at the airport. If you do take a taxi, then make sure the taxi driver turns on his meter. The first time I visited Vietnam, a taxi driver I met at the airport didn't turn on the meter and at the end of the ride charged me double what the fare normally would have cost. The second time I arranged for someone from the hotel to pick me up.

$8 a night for a room with air conditioning.

$7 a night for a room with a fan.
I'm staying at one of these hotels now. Lonely Planet has more contact information of hotels. |
