Hi there,
I am a music graduate (BFA from a Canadian University) and was wondering if there are any jobs teaching music (say kindergarden/elementary school) in Thailand. Since English is not my first language, will my somewhat obvious accent be an obstacle in getting a job. Salary is really not that important and it can be a part time job. Bangkok and Chiang Mai preferred, but heck.... I went to Chumphon and Hua-Hin last year, I liked it, so I'm pretty flexible.
Looking forward to any pointers you people can give me!
Thanks!!! |

what nationality are you?
I would say that getting real a music job will be very difficult as there just arent that many around. In a thai school you would need to be able to play traditional thai instruments. In an international school you might get away with the non native aspect ( I assume you are not one by your post ) if they cant find one.
You might incorporate some music into your lessons as an english teacher but then there are pitfalls to that as well and of course the non native angle as well. |

Thanks for your reply.
I have actually seen a couple of ads asking for music teachers, but there was no mention of ability to play traditional Thai instruments. My impression was that this was some kind of private school and all they were looking for was somebody who can teach kids English songs and do some activities. Of course, I could be wrong. I am a Canadian citizen(originally from Yugoslavia).
