Hello everyone,
I am in the process of getting ready for my up coming JET interview and I am wondering if talking about my Japanese girlfriend (who is living in Canada until she finishes university) will help me, hurt me, or not affect me at all? I am sure that during the interview they will ask me why I am interested in Japan, or where I became interested in Japan etc...
Any advice?

I would advise that you don't mention the girlfriend as that is not what they are paying you for. Some people hope to get a teaching placement near where their girlfriend is or use the girlfriend as a pretext for coming to Japan. JET is paying you to teach English. They will send you where they need people and its quite possible you will be placed in a different city (or even island) to where your girlfriend lives.
You can choose a location near where she lives and hope you get it but saying you want to be near your girlfriend may raise some red flags with the selection committee. |
