I am working on a web site project and have a few general questions about Vietnam.

1. What is the average monthly salary that teachers get paid in HCMC or Hanoi?

2. Do you usually get paid by the hour or month?

3. I heard that uni teaching is really poorly paid. Is that true? How little?

4. How many hours do most teachers teach in a week?

I have been to mekongesl.com, but these are a few holes I couldn't find an answer to.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks. For question number #2, I should have said, how do most teachers get paid? Would it be 50% hourly vs. 50% monthly?

To be honest, I don't quite understand this question. Do you mean 50% of the teachers, 50% of the pay or ...? Please clarify.

As Proffeshnial Teachman stated the usual arrangement is an hourly rate that is paid monthly. Some places like ILA I think pay a salary based on a minimum number of teaching hours.

Have you tried http://www.saigonesl.com/forum

They could use the traffic.

Sorry about that. It does sound confusing. I mean do you get paid by the hour or do you get paid X amount every month, on a contract basis. Japan's language schools pay you the same every month, so your contract will say your salary/month.

What is the usual salary range for a new teacher? $1000+ is not very helpful, sorry.

If you are in Japan, the first thing you need to do is not compare working in Vietnam with the system in place over there. I was in Korea and very little comparison can be made at any level. This isn't a salary contract, find a job over the internet kind of place. It is a walk in basis, negotiate what you are looking for, work at multiple school, enjoy the living kind of environment.

Do you have a link to your project?

Not yet. The site is done, but I don't have a permanent site yet. I will be in Vietnam for the next month travelling around with my family and looking forward to it.
