Hola a todos!
This is my first post on this board, but I've seen it be useful to others so I thought i'd give it a try. I am looking to move to Santiago Feb 13th or 14th to get a teaching job and am not sure fully what is the best way to go about doing so. Does anyone have any suggestions on the types of places to stay? seems like a hotel would be expensive for a couple of weeks on end but if there is something in between a hotel and hostel that would be great. Or is it suggested to try to get an apartment right away? unfortunately ChileStay doesn't have empty rooms for Feb. I was just wondering what other ppl in my situation did? and how long you spent applying for jobs etc? i guess i'm just wondering what to expect when i get there and how best to prepare ahead of time with the short time that I have.
Chao for now!

Hi there!
I arrived in Santiago in October with the same situation. I cannot be more thankful for landing an apartment before I got here. With no job and not knowing anyone it was such a relief to have a place to stay. I found my place on craigslist.com which is just starting up in Santiago. I looked on the site today and these girls had posted for a room that looks great in Pedro de Valdivia. If you have any questions on neighborhoods or reasonable prices feel free to ask! Good luck!
ps, This is just my humble opinion... |

Hi Kate!
Actually i just got a reply and probably a place in Pedro de Valdivia Norte that you had mentioned that was on Craigslist. I'm just wondering how far that would be from the major schools and all since I will be applying when I get there. it seems good as it works out to CLP 110 000/month all inclusive and would be cheaper than a hotel for sure, the only thing is that i'll be paying for the first half of feb even though I won't be there for it. Any comments? here's the link:

Hope to hear from you soon!

Again, in my humble opinion...
That was the apartment I was talking about on craigslist. The wonderful thing about Pedro de Valdivia Norte is that its right next to the metro station and Avenida Providencia. That metro line (L1) will bring you directly to Universidad Catholica, Universidad de Chile and Universidad de Santiago, if those are some of the schools you are interested in, or indirectly to almost anywhere in the city. Plus, on Avenida Providencia/Once de Septiembre, you can catch micros going just about every place you could think of. The majority of the Business English Institutions, such as Comnicorp, English First, Bridge-Linguatec, the Wall Street Institute, etc. are only 2 metros stops away or about a 20 minute walk. And finally, the Pedro de Valdivia/Manuel Montt neighborhood has a really terrific bar and restaurant scene...
Paying for the first half of Feb. is a tough call. Personally, I think this is a great deal. If gastos are included then the price is very reasonable. If other people here in Santiago have an opinion, please add it!
If you have any more questions please feel free to ask!
Good luck!
