I have one of each (hitotsu zutsu) at home. Window type means that it mounts into a window frame or door frame, not unlike the ones you see in old, cheap motels in North America... They are definitely different from the ones that mount high up on the wall. Window types you can install yourself, and it's a lot easier to visualize when you actually go into the denki store to look at them. The only thing you need to be wary of is the height of your window, and making sure the unit will fit properly into it. They usually fit vertically but CANNOT be turned horizontally... So make sure you have a tape measure, and draw a schematic. Show it to the dudes at the store if you have any doubts.
My window unit sucks! It's barely strong enough to chill a 6-mat room, noisy as hell, and it wasn't exactly easy to install either (although a lot easier than the wall-mount type). It also doesn't have a built-in heater, something that you may want to consider for the winter months.
My wall unit is a pretty standard type. The only complaint I have against is that it takes too long to warm up (or cool down)... I had it installed for me... Which is something that I would definitely recommend -- get your wall unit professionally installed. It ain't worth the hassle doing it yourself.... You will find yourself up on a ladder, drilling large holes into the wall of your house or apartment. To me, that's something best left to someone who knows what they're doing. |
