Hungary is EU. Would the passport give me the EU ticket or has Hungary not yet been fully amalgamated in the sense that I could then live and work in the EU without restrictions...? Any info would be greatly appreciated! |

I don't exactly know but I have heard that there are not the same free-access policies to Bulgaria and Hungary as there were for Poland (at least in the UK and Ireland) and the other recent additions to the EU. |

It's Bulgaria and Romania who won't get the full access immediately. Hungary is already a full EU member (since 2004) and having a Hungarian passport would give you full EU rights.
All the best!

I don't think so. Each EU member country has different working laws for citizens of the new member countries. I know for certain that some countries still restrict working permits for Czech citizens. I'm pretty sure it's the same for Hungarians. You should check country Embassy websites for details.
Ultimately, citizenship from a new EU member will probably give total access to the EU, but for now it is still limited. Certainly better than a citizen from outside the EU, though. |

Ah! My mistake thanks. Although, I do believe that Hungary still faces a lot of restrictions in places outside of the UK, Ireland and er...one other...Sweden? Please correct me if this is misinformation. |

You are right...I contacted a friend of mine; an EU lawyer and he said Sweden and, the UK and Ireland but the prohibitions will within other countries will be lifted in a few years and then...it's like any other EU country... |

Negative? No, just realistic. Please note the overall positive tone below!

Did a bit of reading up but couldn't find a mention of Hungary specifically. However, there was supposed to be a review of the impact of these countries joining the EU in May 2004 to be held in May 2006. In another 2.5 years the official restrictions must end unless the impact of immigration is deemed to be seriously affecting the economy and social structure of a country, in which case a further two years can be added, but no more. Realistically I don't think Hungary has posed any major problems so I would imagine in a maximum of 2.5 years you'd enjoy full EU rights. Until then you still have a major advantage of those applying from non-EU countries so the Hungarian passport would be a pretty good boon to your chances of working in the EU block.
