Hello everyone! This is my first post so i will introduce myself. My name is Aneta, i'm 26 and i come from Poland. I recently graduated from Silesian University of Katowice in Poland in philosophy (MA degree). I also have MA in political science (graduated in 2003). I have a teaching certificate from Polish Teachers Association. My lifelong dream is to become a teacher. Unfortunately , due to high unemployment rate in Poland , i'm not able to find a job as a humanities/philosophy teacher. My friends adviced me to apply for a teaching job or internship in NYC, saying that i would not only find an interesting job there but also i would gain much needed experience in working in multi cultural environment. I'm fluent in English (scored 620 points on TOEFL test) and Polish (my native language), I have experience in working with children and young adults and non teaching experience (I worked as a journalist and editorial staff member for 2 years during my studies and now I work full time as a branch manager for a small international firm specializing in international student exchange programs. www.yec.pl ). Right now i'm looking all over the web for information how to find a legal teaching job. I do not have a citizenship or a green card and it seems that i won't be able to find anything in public schools. I honestly do not know what to do. Should I send my CV to public schools or maybe to private Polish schools? Do i really have a chance to find a teaching job/internship in NYC or is it impossible? Maybe i should get a special certificate? If i can find anything on which type of visa would i work J-1, H1b? Maybe someone knows the answers. I'd be grateful for any suggestions , comments and information.
Thank you in advance

Just my two cents' worth...
You will most likely not be able to teach in public schools. Then again, there are teaching fellowship programs:
http://www.nyctf.org/prospective/fellowship.html
One of my professors is from Italy. She earned her doctorate from an American uni, so maybe you could consider that. That is, if you want to invest all of that time and money into earning a PhD so you can teach here in the states.
Regarding private Polish schools: I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about. |

if you can teach math or science, I think it is possible.
I did read about Austrians teaching math at New York public schools. |
