|

Hi, everyone. Can anyone offer some wisdom on this...?
I worked in Taiwan for a while (legally, of course!).
I quit my job (following contractual procedure), and left for 2 months.
Now I want to return to Taiwan and get a new job.
Let's imagine that my ex-employer didn't cancel my work permit...would my ARC and Resident Visa still be valid (until July 2006, when my ARC expires)?
Could I just fly in to CKS with my passport and ARC and re-entry permit, then get a new job, and have them add a work permit to my ARC?
And, if my ex DID cancel the work permit, then everything is invalid..right?
Thanks a LOT for any advice! |

Dear BJS,
It seems to me that you should contact your former employer and just ask the person who originally took care of your work visa application. I would imagine that they did cancel your work visa, which technically invalidates your ARC and Re-entry permit.
They probably cancelled your work visa and health insurance together, due to the fact that schools pay several hundred NT per month for each teacher's health insurance. (And they could eliminate this expense by 'closing' everything about your employment there.)
Who knows, though.... Did they ever expect you to come back and work for them? I guess it is possible that everything is the same as when you left. Ultimately, I think open, honest communication will be the only way to find out.
Best wishes!

mmmm
If they haven't and you didnt contact them (thus reminding them) would you be any worse off standing at CKS than if they had? |

Thanks, guys.
Welshguy--good question; I think I would be much better off at CKS if all my permits were still in effect. Because then I could enter the country, without the Landing Visa/future visa run. Does that sound right?
Another thread advised to check ARC status with the Foreign Affairs Police, whose number just rings and rings.
I have a friend who had worked at Kojen. He quit through proper means, and stayed in Taipei doing privates for 8 months more. He made at least 2 round trips to Japan, so I think his ARC (and thus work permit) and Resident Visa must have remained active. Crazy, huh?
Taylor: ruefully, after my time in Taiwan, I doubt the power of open, honest communication with my school. But I might try! |

A fellow teacher in Kaohsiung did that and it was a bit of a headache for him and his wife. He ended up having to go to Hong Kong for a visa run soon after his arrival back in Taiwan. |

You should get a letter from a school when they cancel it, if you get a visa now they will tell you that you have an ARC even if you know that you don't, get that letter and a new 60 day visa.... |
