Hello all,

I am a female, and got a job offer from Berlitz, in Taif. They offered 5000 riyals + housing and transportation. I am not a US citizen, but Algerian. What is the reputation with Berlitz, in Taif. And how far is it from Riyadh? That is where my husband is staying and teaching. Any idea if they allow me to travel to Mecca or Riyadh to see my husband? Oh, and the contract is for 2 years, he said i can not try and leave to move to riyadh, he knows my husband is staying there. But i also heard, that most people who start with Berlitz, usually don't stay more than 6 months, because they are tired of all the lies and nonsense that is presented to them at the school. And also, as a female, will i also teach for the whole day? Like the men????

Please if you have any answeres to these questions, answer! Thanks.

Exactly!!!!!!!

Have you any idea what life would be like for a lady on her own in Taif?

Wouldn't it make more sense to try and find a job in Riyadh?

Berlitz has a reputation AND life in Taif for a single female will not be easy.

Why not join your husband in Riyadh and then look for a job there ?

Well, husband already sponsored his first wife under his iqama. So i would have to find a job, because they wont let him sponsor 2 wives. Unfortunately. I think it will be hard for me to find a job there, i do speak arabic, i'm from Algeria, but still...i'm algerian citizen, and i think that will make things a lil difficult for me.

Any idea how i can get there?

Sure he can have two wives on his iqama. Sharia Law ! Maybe he doesn't want to !

I have had Muslim colleagues here who had multiple wives with them.

He should ask his employer. I think it unlikely that this information is available online.

As for Sharia Law is it not a requirement that a Muslim husband treats his wives equally ?

His employer might not provide you with a ticket, but should facilitate your travel by organising and entry visa.

This is dependent on your husband's status. What job does he do ? is he a graduate ?

How are you getting the visa? Surely you will be on your husbands iqama. I do not think you can have your own 'stand-alone' iqama.

Scot,

I realise that lots of women have jobs in KSA but none of the categories you mention is likely to have a husband working legally in Saudi also. Can a woman have her own iqama if her husband has an iqama and is working here. I thought she had to be part of that iqama, after all, he is her legal guardian.

My husband is a teacher at the manarat school in riyadh. He is a graduate.
SO you guys r saying that his school can't say no to putting me under his iqamah? They probably just don't want to pay the fees thats why they say we cant sponsor ur two wives. only one. My husband has no problem paying for it if thats the case. But i just need to know. You can never be sure if what they say to you is true or not...so we'll see.

A friend of mine had 3 wives on his iqama, this was a couple years ago. So, it is possible to have more than one wife on one's iqama.

I believe a new law was passed almost two year ago, saying that expats could only have one wife on the iqama.

Since your dh is in Riyadh then he can always try to attend one one the Princes' majlis, to get special permission to add you to his iqama.

Another route, if you speak french is to try to find a job as a french teacher. It maybe less difficult as an arab to get that job than a job teaching english.

Hope That Helps

We had an American apply last year who had four wives. He tactfully forgot to mention it in his application.

When Personnel found out his file was quietly dropped, or so I'm told.
