I'm sorry if my questions have been answered before, I've tried searching the forums but can't find the info I'm looking for.

I'd like to teach overseas, right now I'm thinking Shanghai or Beijing but I'm open to other parts of China and Asia as well (preferably big cities though, I'm not much of a small town girl). I'm from the US, have a BA and a MA in Elementary Ed and certification with 2 years of classroom experience (1 year permanant sub and 1 year long term sub head teacher). I have absolutley no ESL background. Am I qualified to teach at an International or American school, or do I have to start at a 'language factory'. What other options are there? I'm not necessarily opposed to a language factory, it just seems like there is more opportunity to be scammed somehow.

Thank you!!

Ginger

You'd probably land an international school job at "beginner" level. Yes, China is an option, as are the UAE and Turkey.
Put together a professional application package [no spelling errors], or join one of the international school recruitment agencies which run job fairs in many major cities across the English speaking world.

Skies the limit. Intl schools are usually searching for teachers who are certified and experienced in non-ESL subjects, and most language mills won't turn you down, as long as you don't go against their program.

If you've got a white skin (NOT a racist remark - just based on experience!); can walk and have no speech impediment - you can find a job at most levels in China. One of the Institute factories may even make you a DOS!
Timing is a factor though; for many University and school posts, the two job "windows" are December (for a March start) and June (for a September start). Those advertising now are either at the "lower end" of the market or have a problem.
