Anyone know where I can find a schedule for JR and an idea of how long it takes to go from place to place? I'm coming to Japan for a couple of weeks and the info I've found on the net is really confusing or out of date. Thanks

If you can read Japanese, check out www.ekikara.jp or transit.goo.ne.jp . Both let you input boarding station and destination (in kanji or kana, I think), and based on the time of day you choose, it'll do the work for you. Additionally, goo's service will give you prices for commuter passes, and ekikara lets you look up the timetables of individual stations.

If you are going as a tourist, it's also a good idea to get the JR Pass
