I've been offerred a job at the Berlitz in Hufuf, KSM. I know from reading previous postings on this board that the aforementioned institution has received some pretty tough criticism.
Here's my situation: I don't have a TEFL (or similar certification), and I'm unemployed at the moment anyway. The contact at the school said I would be working no more than 4-6 hours a day 5 days a week. As usual, an apartment is thrown in along with a decent salary (tax free).
Considering this, I'm I still a fool to take this?
People on this board have also mentioned that you can't take verbal promises too seriously in SA. I know Arabic and I've spent time before in the Arab world and I'm all too familiar with this situation.
Any advice? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and is it true you have to surrender your pastport to your employer and ask him for an exit visa first before you leave?
Thanks. |

It is still common for employers to hold your passport. To leave you need an exit visa which requires a signature from your employer.
The better employers will let you have your passport and agree to a multi-exit/re-entry visa. |
