Khafji is the 'Fort Zinderneuf' of Saudi EFL. For those not familiar with the 'Beau Geste' novels that was a Foreign Legion post in French North Africa from which no one returned sane.
You cannot get to Bahrain and back for the weekend. Kuwait is near enough - but do you want to spend weekends in Kuwait ?
If going to Khafji content yourself with entertaining yourself and counting your riyals ! |

Khafji is not as bad as it seems. I was just there a couple days ago. You can go to the beach everyday (you finish work by 4pm) you can go to Bahrain on the extended weekends, you get lots of time off for holidays (1 month for Eid). You are allowed to have a car, and they will even help you buy it, a lot of things are really up to you and what you are looking for. The current teachers are happy about everything, they have multiple re-entry VISA's and they do go to Bahrain for extended holidays and a lot of them go to Kuwait for other things.
You must have a Masters in TESOL minimum to get in there. The requirements are from Aramaco, not from the Wall Street. The pay scale is different from anywhere else in the kingdom because Aramco pays the salaries through the contract. You get Aramco employee benefits there and you are working for both WSI and Aramco/Kuwait Gulf Oil.
You are not going to party out there, you are going to make and save a lot of money, there are over 2,000 workers out there, they have beautiful recreation facilities for you to use. You can get adult beverages there to help pass the time if you want.
There are only 4 full-time teachers and 2 part-time teachers working on the project currently and they are looking for 2 more full time so they can get away from having the 2 part-time teachers.
Some people might hate the place, and that is just fine, if you came from Thailand or Europe and go directly into the deserts of Saudi Arabia you would have little bit of difficulty adjusting I would think. Others find it relaxing and a place to work on other things like writing, or pursuing their Ph D online or any other project they wish to pursue.
Everywhere is heaven to someone and hell to another.
For me it is heaven but for my wife it would be hell!
