friend and I are planning on going to Japan to teach English next year. I will have a BA in History, an MA in Adolescent Education, and certification to teach in New York State. She will have a BA in Education and also be certified to teach in NYS. Both of us have 5-6 years of experience working at an overnight summer camp for children aged 5-17.
I've been looking at the JET Programme.
We would very much like to live together, or at least very close to each other. From what I have read, however, JET isn't really the best place for couples to apply. Would our qualifications give us more of a chance of being placed together and where we want to be?
Or, would we be better off trying to find jobs on our own? The only problem I can see with this route is that I am going to have student loans to pay off (approx. $200-250/month) and it doesn't seem like there are any places that pay nearly as well as JET.
I really, really want to teach English in Japan, but I'd want to be placed together AND make enough to pay off my loans. Is this possible for me? |
