My wife and I are 50 year old teachers in the U.S., she with a Masters in children's theatre and 20+ years experience teaching pre-school through 1st grade, me with 3 years experience in middle and high school math, certified in secondary math and English, 20 years experience as a software engineer (teaching is a second career) and Masters degrees in computer science and education.

We're planning to spend one year in China teaching. Since we've got jobs and a mortgage to come back to, we can't spend a 1st year working some place we might not like while we figure out China and look for something we like a lot more. We'd like to do our best to get it right the first time.

We're looking at the Kunming area. Does anyone have any experiences, positive or negative, with schools in the area? We're both willing and able to teach at any level.

Adthanksvance.

Lou

I will not encourage you to come here and stay put in Kunming for years to come, considering your unstable situation!
Kunming isn't starved of foreign job applicants, and its working conditions generally lag behind those elsewhere.

And in my opinion, you must accept that a job in CHina always is a temporary filling of a plughole! There is no such a thing as job stability and good income for the asking!

If you listen to Roger you should not come to China. It means you are gullible, easily influenced and stupid. He is an ahole.

From what I understand, Kunming is one of the lowest paying places in China. Many people want to live there because of the weather and location. I suggest that you look elsewhere if money is an issue.
