HELLO, I arrived two days ago, but I am freaking out...I didnt think it was going to be this hard to find housing in Madrid. I already got my tarjeta de telefono at a Vodafone store, my monthly pass (I love how you need a pic...very interesting), but so far no housing. Are there other websites out - besides loquo.com and segundamano.com - where I can search for housing? Thanks, BG |

I don't get it: there are over sixty ads in Loquo for rooms in shared flats: are they all rubbish? (I have to admit that prices seem to have gone up in Madrid in the last couple of years though: a standard room used to be 300 euros, now the average seems to be more like 350).
You should expect to look around for a couple of weeks to find the right room for you. |

If Madrid is anything like Barcelona, there's an aweful lot of shared housing available ... only an aweful lot of it is aweful
Best be prepared to move a couple of times &/or stay in shared hostels whilst looking.
Quality accomodation is available, don't take anywhere without having a good look at the place & thinking long & hard about it. Don't take too much on face value from whoever is showing you the place.
Watch for mold in bathrooms, broken electrical sockets, check that the ubiquitous wireless connection actually works in your room, look at the sinks for mounds of unwashed dishes, ask about leaks, beware students ... in short, do everything I didn't
Dishwashers are nice, so are cleaning ladies (though they tend to raise the price).
btw : prices in Barcelona seem to be higher than Madrid Moore, the dump I'm soon to leave costs me e375 per month, the palace (well, fingers crossed) I move into at the start of March is e475, all inc.
Good luck!
