I am currently teaching English in Japan but my contract ends in July and I will not be renewing it. My intention is to work and travel in Asia and Australia/New Zealand for 1 year/18 months before travelling back to Britain. I have some savings and am quite flexible about where I work/ visit.
I am a university graduate and will have 3 years 'teaching' experience on the JET programme in addition to some private lessons I have taught.
What I want to know is how worthwhile it would be to take some kind of English teaching qualification.
Do the better schools in Asia/Australia countries require English teaching qualifications?
Will I cost/time of taking qualifications be recouped by higher salaries/better jobs/better choice of jobs?I don't intend to teach English as a career though I would like to be a better teacher.
Are short term contracts available at fifferent language schools i.e 3/4 months?
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced TEFL/TESOL course in Asia that is respected and will carry some weight when applying for jobs?
I appreciate that this is a very general post but I am really just beginning to plan my trip and would appreciate some advice from those with experience.I've had a look at a number of TEFL/TESOL course websites but obviously each one just praises itself.
Can anyone recommend a course/ good place to live/ good school to work for?
Thanks |
