I heard that the Sendai international school in Sendai went bankrupt and had to let go their highschool and middleschool teachers without paying them. Apparently the Japanese owner has the buisness brains of a moron, and over spent on ridiculous functions and items to prop up the image of the school rather than worring about the proper care of his teachers.

That school has been in the news in a ton of newspapers. It closed on January 10th when it should have been opened for the new school year, because the water bills weren't paid, and the fees for the use of the grounds of the Sauna as the school entrance weren't paid either.

Newspapers played up the loss of water to the school on several occasions, and how the toilets were unusable, and therefore unsanitary. Word leaked out about it via students and then parents.

More recent articles have highlighted the plight of parents who payed a sustantial amount of money in advance for their student children. They are fuming, because they want it back. Other parents are up in arms, because it will be difficult to restart their children elsewhere, because it took sometime for them to get used to the school's system and foreigen teachers. They don't want to put their kids into a system thats different and new and start all over again.

Newspaper articles also told of how all the middle and highschools weren't paid for their last month.

Over here at Tohoku International School the whole situation has been a roller-coaster ride. Parents were promised the moon at half the cost, and are out quite a bit of money now. Almost every one of the students who left for the new school (SIS- Sendai International School) are back here with us, since the Jan 10 closure. It actually coincided with the regular return from xmas break, so after a week of chaos will such a huge simultaneous mid-year influx, we're settled back into a routine and our enrollment is at 87 right now. by the way, i'm new to the japan forum. i just arrived in sendai 3 weeks ago to direct the ESL program here at TIS. anyone else out there in sendai? i'd like to meet some other people!
