Hey guys, i was wondering if you could help me? I am considering coming to Thailand to teach, and wanted some info on the following;
Whats gay life like in Thailand? is it liberal or closed like most of Asia (and some of europe too!)
Is thailand the sorta place a 'westerner' could settle and is anyone thinking of staying there forever? lol
Do teaching contracts last yr round as opposed to 8 months like most of europe?
Are wages enough that you can afford to go home (i am from the uk) at least once a year?
sorry to ask all these questions but ur help will b most helpfull
cheers once again

THAILAND IS VERY OPEN AND ACCEPTING OF GAYS. A VERY OPEN AND ACCEPTING SOCIETY. BTW, I AM NOT GAY.

I know a fair few gay teachers here. By all means PM me and I'll put you in touch with some. Alternatively if you go to ThaiVisa you'll see there is actually a gay forum there. By all meand contact PB or IJWT for some feedback (tell them I put you in touch with them by all means).
Very, very open and easy going towards gays here.
You'll be fine mate! |

| vallillo1983, I suggest that maybe you look for some online work to suppliment your income in Thailand. If you could find some online tutoring work then you may be able to afford to travel back to England every year. |

As a heterosexual, I can make the casual observation that Thailand is very tolerant, open, and gay-friendly, although I have to say (as a casual oberserver) it gets a bit blurry when you're talking about being a Lady Boy or just a normal gay man or woman. One of my best farang friends is gay, and his problem isn't intolerance but rather that the dating pool is a lot smaller. I guess that Bangkok has a decent gay scene, but you're not going to run into very few people who would meet the criteria you have for dating back in London (or New York or Melbourne or wherever).
So as for the question of sexuality, don't worry about! As for the question of money...ummm, don't come here for it. It's easy to live within your means here but the truth is the money you make doesn't go anywhere outside of Thailand, and that's what you have to remember that when thinking about a flight that costs 600 pounds. |
