If yoiu want to go on a crappy contract where you are virtually held prisoner, then this is the place for you. Everyother contractor lets their people go over to Bahrain but these people don't .... If you want to quit you either have to wait three months or pay them three months salary before they will let y ou leave. There is one guy form South Africa who is actually locked in his room until he pays or comes out on his own accord. They are holding him prisoner by holding his contract and refusing to let him have it back.
One teacher had to come up with $6000 in cash to pay them so he could go and visit his dying mother.

Ad to that that there is a Militant Muslim from the UK onm the teaching staff that trys tog et Christians in a religious fight and then goes and tells on them that they were saying things about Islam after he started it all. He claims that ALL women who don't wear the black cape and cover their hair and face orre sluts and prostitute. Not a great place to work.

Stay away.

Everything else is cool. Great student sand the DOS is -pretty good but the owners like to oppress the workers and play hard ball/..... Stay way./.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. I can only suppose you are saying that IH wont' give their teachers multiple exit-reentry visas? If so, IH are not unique in this, but it's true that most (not all) employers do grant such visas. As for "Bahrain" once you've got the exit-reentry visa, your employer doesn't have any say on which country you choose to visit, Bahrain, China, Australia.... it's none of their business.

Many posters here have stressed the importance in Saudi of getting a reasonable employer. If you come here with one of the bad employers your life will be MISERY.

Tred carefully and ask for opinions before you commit yourself to life as an indentured worker !

There are reasonable employers in KSA, but there are also monsters.

IH pay low salaries compared to most other employees, probably on a par with Berlitz. Most of the teachers are South Africans who are generally happy to work for lower salaries and benefits. I find that most Saudis prefer a non-Muslim teaching them since they have enough of bearded weirdies outside the classroom and find it refreshing and interesting to talk about subjects that can offer them an 'escape', like music and films.

'Saudis prefer' You cannot generalise like this. Under that uniform of thobe and ghutra, Saudis are diverse and hold diverse opinions.

Don't be fooled into thinking they are all the same !

British Muslims and they (Muslims) are the worst....

have enough of bearded weirdies...[/quote]

jamesfromscotland and Tomtom...your comments are disgusting and offensive and have no place on a forum which is designed (I thought) to give "professional" advice and opinions about the jobs at which people work

if you don't like the people of the country in which you work, there's a simple solution...LEAVE.

how can you teach effectively when you feel that way towards your students?
why are you here? just to get a paycheck?

really admirable.

granted there are problems-many problems-here in the Gulf but to make general sweeping comments like these are ridiculous.

But it's the British Muslims he's complaining about, not the Saudi ones.

You could say he has followed your advice and left; the problem is the people he didn't like are leaving with him :)

In all fairness, his comment is a hopeless overgeneralization. Most British Muslims I have worked with have been perfectly pleasant, gentelmanly colleagues.

Thank you SJ.

There's good and bad with every kind, the sooner people realise that, the better!

hmmm, beast's comments only raise one question for me? is all of that which he refers to, i.e., no entry-exit visa, 90 day notice of termination, repayment if no 90 day notice, etc., is in the contract that the teacher signs. if it is, why are we talking about this...

if it isn't, then beast has a complaint, don't we all agree that would seem sound?

It has come o people's attention that there have been threats and or attacks against Christian teachers and staff at IH Saudi Arabia and it is tolerated. Of course it's the little people or the people who can't or won't fight back that get these attacks.

The Mnagement has been known to purpously delay exit visas on teachers whohave rsigned until after their booked flight expires. It's just vindictive crap.
That sort of stuff goes on all the time against Christians here. Those people are in a dire position and anyone who goes there or even thinks about it should seriously reconsider unless they like getting mistreated and dumped on regularly.

I very much doubt if this has anything at all to do with religion. Bangladeshis are treated worse than nearly anyone in this country and they are nearly all Muslims.
