Wow, the spying posts are scary! You would think they have better things to do. I must confess that I have regrets about ever getting started with this university. The International Office is so incompetent that they have had all my documents since January 13th and it's now February 13th and they still insist that they need more time to issue an invitation letter. The truth of the matter is that they are practiced if not intelligent liars. I would suggest that you avoid this university at all costs. The two women there, Monica and Ruby, the dumb and dumber of China, are contemptuous on a good day. Somehow, they found two Foreign Experts there to give them a reccommendation. I'm beginning to believe that Chinese universities all employ a FE "House Liar" to cover rather than correct their incompetencies. If you really need a job I'd suggest that you not depend on Podge and Rodge. I'll keep you posted if an invitation letter ever arrives. Looking at the bright side, perhaps I've had a narrow escape. Generally speaking, it takes employers about a month (more or less) to get all the documents needed (including invitation letter) to get you your Z visa. But do keep in mind that Spring Festival ended only yesterday and according to my wife, government offices are closed for half a month for Spring Festival.

It doesn't need to take as long as a month for the invite, but the Chinese New Year holiday would stretch things out. Also, Jiangxi is one bureaucratically bleeped up province.

I do believe you are correct, but perhaps more precisely it is people who want nothing out of life -- and they get it! But contrary to popular opinion is not the young liberal arts majors, but the 40-60 year old crowd with supposedly real careers back home who are so burnt out that they are happy to bend over for the Chinese.
