Hi all,
I am thinking of leaving my job in Korea to work in China, and since I have some friends in Beijing and Zhuhai I figured one of those two cities would be my best bet. I was wondering if I could mine the well of your various experiences to help me make my decision. I know that Beijing has that big-city-excitment thing going for it, but I've lived in big cities all my life and think that a smaller, sea-side town like Zhuhai might be better for me (although I could get bored). Also, is it easy enough to get a six month contract in China?
Cheers,
-D |

I was in Zhuhai about a week ago and it was quite nice. There's a pleasant walking area fairly close to the bridge that allows you to enter Macau and prices seemed reasonable. There is a fairly decent hotel right beside the long distance bus station if you decide you want to head there for a couple of days to check it out. It's called the 'Friendship Hotel' and prices (outside of peak season)shouldn't be too bad.
To be honest the biggest attraction to me about Zhuhai was the climate, some western conveniences that I couldn't find in the city where I was working and its proximity to Macau.
Macau is AWESOME!!
Cobbled streets, great architecture, Portuguese food and restaurants if you desire a change from the norm and a really comprehensive transport system..PLUS they have a world class motorcycle race through the streets every November.
Between the two I'd take Zhuhai 'cos I'm a small city boy myself...errm that is I'm a small city boy, not a small city boy...
Good luck. |
