Hi Guys,
I wanted to know if anyone of you had trouble leaving your home country to Taiwan. What I mean is if anyone was held up at their home country's airport and was asked to see a return air ticket back to the home country?
You see in my situation, I will not be having a return ticket because we only bought one way tickets throughout our travel around the world. We only bought up to Hong Kong and from there, we were going to buy a separate ticket to Taiwan when we arrived. So that means, we have no return ticket back to Canada or to HK, as of course, we are not even sure if we will find a job in Taiwan and if so, we are not sure how long we are staying??
I just dont want to be stuck at the HK airport asking for proof of an onward ticket from Taiwan!!! Any suggestions or comments for me....please any advice is welcomed..
thanks |

sorry just to add to my query, is it necessary to obtain an actual diploma as proof of your degree, or can a transcript or a photocopy of your degree suffice???? |

With a lot of Asian countries the law requires proof of onward travel, however this is widely ignored by most immigration officials in most countries. I don't know what the specific law is for Hong Kong and it would be best to check at their embassy in your home country. Even if they state you need an onward ticket, generally you will not be asked to prove this at immigration. The problem is, whilst the immigration of the country in question may not actually require proof, the airline you fly with almost certainly will (if that law applies to Hong Kong). Airlines don't want to get fined because passengers have incorrect documents.
Your second problem is, you will be in the same situation in Taiwan if you only buy a one way ticket from Hong Kong to Taipei.
Most people would have bought a one way ticket to Hong Kong VIA Taipei, thus having an onward ticket to Hong Kong if things don't work out and also having proof of onward travel for the Taiwan authorities if required. |

In answer to your question about return ticket requirements I suggest that you read the following article:

As far as your diploma situation my advice is to wait till you have the actual diploma certificate and also make sure you bring the original. This is the minimum requirement of the CLA and although some schools do process things differently you best comply with the minimum government requirements to be on the safe side. It would be disappointing to lose a good job opportunity based solely upon the fact that you didn't have the correct documents on hand. |

How did you get a visa to go to TW in the first place? My experience with the HK office has always involved very offical people who check every box on the paperwork. If your going to TW without a visa your going to have to return to HK anyway. You can not get an ARC on a landing permit. |

Well one things for sure if you turn up at CKS with no onward ticket booked then you aint getting passed the barrier in the first place. Even if you turn up with an open ticket they will fetch someone to immigration to book you out again before they let you in. |
