I'm new in town, and I just took over directing the ESL program at Tohoku International School. Now, my coworkers are lovely people, but since my Japanese is EXTREMELY limited, they are the only folks I know socially. Anyone else out there? I have a myspace personal page, too, so if you want to know more about me, link up:

Cheers all, and yes, I know Daves is an ESL site, not a social hookup site...I'm just climbing the walls right now to meet some new folks! |

Thanks for the reply, i knew there must be at least one person out there who knew what i was talking about when i said "sendai"! anyhow, the students here are mainly japanese, korean, russian, and english L1 (with some farsi, french, and punjabi thrown in the mix!), with parents who are either students or lecturers at Tohoku University, for the most part, and a few private companies. We use a mainstream ESL program and I coordinate closely with classroom teachers to most effectively present information to the students. I also monitor student English levels and progression using computer adaptive testing and norm-referenced tests, in addition to being the English nexus for many of the families who have chosen english-based education for their kids but are limited in their own EL abilities. The kids are great! |

I recommend you send a pm to Shonai Ben. I believe he inhabits those parts, and he seems an alright guy. I visited Sendai last summer, but that doesn't do you much good now. You might want to visit Akiu onsen if you have a chance. |

I lived in Sendai (loosely translated "hea-ven") for three years and never regretted a second of it even though it has no pizza parlors. I am sooooooooooooooooooooo jealous of you or anyone else that is still there. To think I would be blessed to have lived in such a place! There a couple of things I want to ask you, so pm me if you dare. Good luck in your stay. You have truly landed in the garden spot of Japan. Fred |
