Hi!

This is my first post and hope you will be patient and tolerate lots of questions for a while.

I'm going to be starting my course at TEFLocal and leaving for Argentina on Feb. 28. Major happy dance!!!

I've made tentative arrangements to stay in Adrogue. It sounds like a nice town. I was told that it's inexpensive hour commute each way to downtown BA, but that didn't particularly bother me, since my accomodations are going to be so nice (a bed and breakfast) and my classes apparently don't start until noon.

I'm a woman, way past my 20's and am not much of a party-er or late night person, so missing night life won't be a big sacrifice for me. I admit, I do like peace and quiet. I figured if worse came to worse and I did want to stay out late occasionally, I could stay downtown overnight. I am also concerned about my safety in the city alone at night.

Do you think I'm going to be sorry for not choosing to stay closer to the school? I still have time to choose other arrangements.

Thanks!

I look forward to meeting lots of you, either virtually, or even better, in person very soon! Very Happy

I'm not familiar with that city but if I understand correctly, you will commute an hour each day to go to the school? Wow, that sounds like a major hassle.

I must first tell you that I am in the US now. I have not lived in BA but have been there several times, am married to a Porteno, and watch the local news regularly. It seems to me that you should be more concerned with your safety in the interior. Whenever I see anything bad on the news, that's always where it happens. There is a big presence of La Aduana in Puerto Nuevo, adjacent to the Casa Rosada. It is safer there for sure. I am anxious to see if others who are actually there agree.

And, congrats on your move. I am envious and hope you enjoy the wonderful country of Argentina!

Hey, this is just my opinion, but I believe you will be going to TEFLOCAL and I think it is probably a good idea to stay close to the office. BTW, they have a nice housing program on the website and I think they have activities after class, you might find that despite your being "way over 20" you enjoy staying out a bit. I too, got my TEFL cert in my "over 20s" and I was surprised at how great it was to live in Madrid, very close to my school. I was able to really soak in the culture and the course is not easy, you will need time to unwind.

I got a sublet in Paloma, and I am looking forward to really enjoying BA. But who knows, homestays are nice too...

Saludos
