I know that 'drunker' fits the rules of comparatives, but to my Scottish ears 'more drunk' sounds more natural. So
Baba Alex is more drunk than Entrailicus.
What do you think?
So I think Baba is the voice of reason, but more drunk. |

Interesting question, dmb.
'What's the most drunk you've ever been?' sounds better to me than 'drunkest'
Could just be my ear, but 'stupider' and 'stupidest' sound better than 'more/most stupid.' 'She's the stupidest person I've ever met' or 'She's the most stupid person I've ever met.' ?
There are a few others like this I can't think of offhand... |

That reading is like getting drunk, but not as much fun?
As I was getting drunk this weekend, I was mulling other weird comparatives. (I know, get a life justme, but here it is):
"Entrailicus' drunkenness is (subtler or more subtle) than mine, and dmb's is the (subtlest or most subtle)," I said, falling flat on my a*s.
'Subtler' sounds better, but looks weird in writing. 'Most subtle' sounds and looks better than 'subtlest.'
There was never a (motlier or more motley) crew of gents than Baba Alex, dmb, and Entrailicus.
And 'little' is just weird: "Baba Alex's little finger is littler than dmb's, but mine is the littlest." Ew. It just sounds funky. I prefer smaller/smallest.
Last, Entrailicus, as usual, keeps shaking the table slightly and we're all watching the ripples in our beers:
"Look, dmb's beer is rippling, but mine is pretty still."
"Indeed, but mine is (stiller or more still)."
"And yours is the (stillest or most still). How do you do that?"
"Dunno," says I, because at this point in my un-subtle drunkenness I've lost many important verbal and motor skills, so everything looks pretty ripply to me.
I'd say I have to get out more, but sadly, I thought of this while I was out. It was just more interesting that watching BJK lose to Rizespor... |

| Generally, no. One of the low hums. It's surprisingly loud in there. |

Is it the 'druken man' or the 'drunk man'?
I have heard teacher swear blind that 'the drunk man' is incorrect. |

Both are adjectives so' the drunk man' and 'the drunken man' are correct.
However, drunken is attributive, which means it precedes the word described. so we can say 'The man is drunk' but not 'the man is drunken'
Does that sound convincing or the ramblings of a drunk(ard)?
( I am convinced that we can not say 'the drunkenest' ...... unless we were ) |

If we were, I'm sure you'd be the most drukenest. |
