Hi everyone,

This is my first post...hope it's a good one!

I'm planning on moving to South or Central America around August 1st. I would like to intern for an advertising agency somewhere, and I'm assuming if I can land an internship, I won't get paid. I'd like to tutor English on the side to help pay the bills. Can anyone reccomend a country where I can both find an internship (without a Journalism degree--just Spanish and Business) and find enough people willing to pay for a English lessons?

I was thinking of Chile, but a few friends have reccomended Argentina.

Thanks for any advice, even if it's just about the countries in general!

I'm sorry to say you probably won't be able to get a work visa to teach English without sponsorship of a school. I don't know what skills/experience you have in advertising, but it might be difficult for any agency to sponsor you for a work visa unless you have special skills that native citizens don't. 'English speaking/teaching' is such a skill, but you'd probably have to concentrate on English teaching as your main occupation. (even if you only did it part-time/weekends)
Without having 'connections,' you are unlikely to find any work, even internships, in advertising, or much of anything other than English teaching.
This is a generalization and I hope I'm wrong.

There are a number of places in Latin America you can teach on the side without worrying too much about a work permit. Chile, Argentina, Mexico, many others.

As for interning with an ad agency, I don't know of anything offhand. What about television, radio, or print media, in an ad department? Just guessing here, but there might be more opportunity there for the larger network.

Hmm...on that, why don't you try contacting El Universal newspaper in Mexico City? They have a connection to the Miami Herald.
