You actually earn less money at a university in Taiwan. But the smaller teaching hours, longer holidays more than make up for it. Just don't get a part time job there. |

Ki,
You make more money working at a university in Taiwan.
10 hours a week for $55,000 a month?
How much is that per hour?
5.5 months paid vacation......
What is that - an hour a day over the course of a year or something?
At the British Council teachers make about $90,000 a month but they work three times as much with a lot less time off (2 months)?
Both are good gigs - just depends on what you're exactly after. |

Is there more opportunites for career advancement in China? |

Yes, the university gig is sweet if you are full time. Not so much as a part timer. Per teaching hour it certainly is better than at a buxiban.
I was talking about a monthly salary which at a university is about 55,000 and at a buxiban usually between 60-70,000. Good deal at the BC then.
Yes, 10 or 12 hours a week, less than half that of a buxiban gig, but office hours tend to turn it into more of a 9-5 job.
This doesn't take into account the enormous vacation differences (5 months compared to 1 week at a buxiban) or the 1 month end of year bonus, at the uni. |
