Hello,

I am an American who recently arrived in Japan on a holiday visa.

I have found a company to sponsor me for my one year work visa.
I think the company may do shady things.

Once the paper work has been processed and my passport has been stamped with a one year visa, can I leave the company the next day and still retain my visa?

Do I have to stay with the company for a period of time?

Are there any websites that state exactly what the rules are?

I have checked online and can't find an answer...

Hi everyone. I just joined the forum because I am interested in going to Japan for 1 year through AEON, GEOS, or some other eikawa school. However, I was thinking of working for only 6 months to get some experience and then going to a Japanese University to work on my Master's. Do you think I can break a contract with ease? Also, how will this affect my visa status? Can I change my visa from working visa to a college student one?

I hope someone can answer my complicated questions. Thanks.

You can break a contract anytime you like. It usually requires 2 weeks' notice, but some employers require more. Resigning doesn't affect your visa status.

To switch to a student visa, you'll have to enroll in the school first.

This forum has scared off a lot of authoritative voices on labour issues since schools pay as advertisers so critical messages are often censored or deleted. Plus labour friendly moderators have been dismissed.

It is not a business. It is community orientated. It has a search function as well, I think.

Gaijinpot.com is also a business and depends on schools advertising dollars, so critical posts are censored and deleted.
