Hey, me again! Getting quite used to posting these!! Lol!

Can I ask, where's better for career advancement opportunities, China or Taiwan. I mean in the sense of the longer you work, the better/more job opportunities such as DOS, Head of dept etc and better pay??

Cheers.

oh just one last point, although wages are lower in China, do they go further than wages do in Taiwan. For those who have taught in both, where's the better place to live Shanghai or Taipei?

I feel that coming to China has not really helped me career wise because I get no sound career development advice . The Chinese teachers do not criticise me and if they do they have absolutely nothing constructive to offer . I also feel that the lack of goal planning in the University creates a big problem for me and the students . Just ask the 'why learn spoken English' and many are not quite sure in my classes . I think if you come here it would be better if you already have a few years experience under your belt . Problems like goal setting , curriculum design , learner problems will be easier to deal with and set up. As much as I have learnt quite a bit about teaching I feel when I move to Europe I will really start to learn more about EFL teaching and therefore help assist a career in the field. Good luck with your career.
