I lived in Japan (in 1997) as a college student and absoultely loved it there. I found people friendly, the language not too difficult to learn, and life there was quite comfortable.
I visited China in 2000 for my wedding. I prayed I would never have to go back... it was THAT bad.
I visited China and Japan in 2003. I was shocked when I left Tokyo Station in downtown Tokyo and the streets were quite quiet. I left my bags unattened for a few moments and nobody tried to steal stuff from them. I could cross the street without fear of my life. And everything there seemed really expensive. I met up with old friend and had a truly wonderful time in Japan. I think I was most shocked there when I was waiting for a bus to cross the street and the bus driver STOPPED the bus just so I could cross the street. I also love Japanese ceramics. The vibe in Japan is very different from China. I can only really speak for the cities of Otsu, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Tokyo as they are the places I spent the most time.
All I remembered about China from that trip was that it was really hot, and I was so tired of people touching my son, and I vowed to never go back to China.
In 2004, we decided to move to China for 2 years. We live in Shanghai. I absolutely love it here most days.... some days I also hate it.
While both countries are Asian, it is hard to compare apples and oranges... I dont think I can say which one is better for living. They offer different things. I think I had more peaceful sleep in Japan... fewer headaches in Japan. But I will probably be in China for much longer than 2 years.
I dont know about the teaching. |

I like to do the shopping myself. I hate people buying me clothes.... so does that mean I like China or Japan better? |
