I can't believe that I'm even considering going back to the USA, but it might be able to help us travel in the future. WE found a programme that give Peruvians H2B visas, but I don't know if they'd give one to my husband since he's married to me an American, but we don't want to live there permanently, just for a bit.
So we could go there and he could work legally for a bit. What's the TEFL scene like in Colorado? I'd like to get into teacher training, are there traning schools? About money, which would be the main reason to go. Keeping in mind that we're frugal and I'd be teaching and my husband would more likely be working in a hotel, about how much could we save each month? What would start up costs be? |

I'm sorry I won't be able to answer most of your questions. I'm from Colorado. There are definitely ESL teachers there, though I really don't have any idea what the job market there is like.
I haven't lived there for a few years, but I doubt if things have changed much. I would estimate start up costs for the center of Denver to be somewhere around 2 000 dollars. You can get a decent one-bedroom apartment for about five hundred dollars, a month I reckon, but I'd count on six to be safe. Of course there might also be a deposit and last month's rent. Denver is a relatively inexpensive place, in my opinion, once you get to know it. The center of Denver, unlike many cities in the US, is remarkably clean and relatively low-crime. It's really a very nice little city.
You could do it on less, of course,( I moved there in 93 with 700 dollars, and prices are not that much higher) but that would get you a decent place. If you lived outside of the center(or work outside the center) you will probably want a car, though the public transport in Denver is not as bad as it is in many cities. That would set you back, realistically, at least another thousand.
Prices of housing, of course, flunctuate depending on the neighbourhood. You could find cheaper than the price I quoted. |
