Hi everyone,
Trying to decide which end of the country to go to! One School (Eastern Star Foreign Language School) is in Songyuan in Juilin, while the other (CILC) is in Huizhou, Guangdong. The contracts are very similar so it is really just a question of north or south. All advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Esther, Queen of the Hebrews, do some research on China and the respective areas.
Then decide if you like warm or cold climates.
Boo Haman.
Hurray Esther! |

Guangdong is warm.
Jilin is cold.
Can you stand freezing winters or can you stand long humid summers? If you can't handle long freezing winter, then Guangdong is for you. If you can't stand long hot humid summers then Jilin is for you. |

That's new to me!
Summer is hot just about anywhere in China; winters, however, vary: Guangdong is much warmer - never below zero, and in last January, it was "hot" (up to 27 degrees on some days in GUangzhou) we experienced the warmest January for many years.
In JILIN at this time of the year the temperature is way below zero - maybe 20.
Another matter is: Huizhou versus a place I cannot figure out how you ought to spell correctly. Huizhou in Guangdong is a small town squeezed between two monster cities Dongguan and Shenzhen. It's a fairly charming place but it has little to recommend apart from an imitation West Lake park analogous to the one in Hangzhou. The proximity to Shenzhen and Dongguan is not necessarily an advantage as pollution will spoil most of your time here. |

| I've lived in Jilin for 6 months, but before that I lived in GZ. Only you can answer what is best for you weather-wise. Coming from the US (Oregon), Guangzhou was too hot and Changchun is too cold. If I were to do it again, which I probably will, I would head for somewhere in between. |
