Hola!
I have moved back to my wife's home. The local school here wanted a local teacher to help us work a summer programme with us. A person from Guangzhou called me. I told him about the position and he seemed wildly interested in the position. Words like "Yes, I would love to come," "When do I come," "I am interested in working for a small city again," "We appreciate the airfare," and all that. I thought he was coming.
Today, I call and he ignores my phone calls. Ignores them. Finally my wife calls his wife so that she tells me that he does not want the position at all, he is not interested, he is not coming. The problem is that this person did not have the guts, not the balls to tell me himself. If this person told me today that he cannot make it, I would of respected his wishes and wished him well. But when he strokes me yesterday and is excited about the job and flames on me today, this tells me that his honesty not the best.

Senor,
Commiseration and a bit of advice from a well-worn long-term school director: Count incoming teachers/workers as "here" when you shake their hand at the train station and the ink is drying on their contract. Until that happens it's all wide open.
Sadly, being nice to people will not exempt you from the occasional kick to the teeth.
