I have really read of anyone taking the Global Tesol course. Is there a reason for this? I have started the course and it seems to be really good, although I would not know a good one from a bad one.
Thanks

Do you mean you've "rarely" read of anyone taking the Global course?

Do a search if you want the consensus, but if you are enjoying it (and therefore have already paid for it), why does it matter what other people think?

The GLOBAL course is not considered by most good employers to be a good certification because it doesn't include any supervised teaching practice. I have heard that the theoretical stuff in the course is all right, but in face of the lack of real practice, it's not worth it.

The on-site stuff is primarily focused on 'how to get a job' not on how to teach. Bummer, man, but it's not a great course. Too bad you didn't check in advance......there are about a million earlier threads on this forum about GLOBAL and similar courses.

That's not to say that you won't be able to find some job somewhere with your GLOBAL cert. You probably can, depending on where you want to go. But more reputable schools want candidates to have a certification from an on-site course (120 hours) that includes a minimum of six supervised teaching hours.

You can help make up for this lack a bit if you can find some volunteer positions - and get those people in charge of the volunteer facility to write you a letter of recommendation. This approach still won't substitute for a better qualification, but 'since you're committed to GLOBAL, it's one way to help a bit.

In any case, those people who really make EFL/ESL a career seek further training even after a 120-hour cert., so if you get started somewhere and you want to move up the ladder to better jobs, you can always get more training.

Yeah, I meant rarely.

I am kind of doing this as a trial run, I want to finish up my course and go teach, see how I like it. If I do then I will probably get a teaching degree.

Thanks and I will do another search on the topic.
