I have a degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages). I recently had a job interview. I was told that the Vietnamese Department of Labor might not accept this because a TEFL certificate is required rather than a degree in TESOL. In addition, it does not state on the degree what area of study it is in. On my university transcript it does state that the degree is in TESOL. I showed my university transcript to the school, and I was told that the Department of Labor might not accept this as proof that my degree is in TESOL.
What's the best thing to do? Perhaps I could purchase a TEFL certificate online. Is a TESL certificate from a recognized program required? Are there any programs like this in Ho Chi Minh City? |

Simple. Sounds like another proud exaggatory local Vietnamese person to me. They have their nationalism and government bureaucracy ahead of logic. Try other tests: go to Sacom Bank right there on Pham Ngu Lao, the tourist corner. Ask them if they can exchange FROM vn dong TO dollar. All smiles "no sir, can no do anywhere in Vietnam." Then ask "well I really need to send a bit of money back to my country from here," answered by "sorry sir, cannot send money out Vietnam, we only take money in. No place in Vietnam, sir" with proud smiles. Now walk all down District 1 and repeat to get the same answers 99% of the time. |
