Hi again all,

I have arrived in Istanbul and have applied to various places. I have a few interviews coming up but i have no idea what to expect. I'm sure many of you have been to a few. Please please can you kindly let me know, briefly, the sort of things that'll come up, types of questions and in general what employers are looking for. Any information will be valuable and i'll be so grateful.

Thanks for reading this!

All the best. Very Happy

Thanks for the reply.

I am also native as i was born in London and i grew up there until now. I have only been living in Istanbul for a couple of weeks. But it's ok, you couldn't have known. Never judge a book by its cover, or in this case, its name.

Take care, hope you have a good day.

Not sure who you're applying to but regular questions at some of the more challenging places could be:

Quote:
If to private schools with kids - how would you deal with errant behaviour?

If to language schools - how would you present a lesson on x?

If to universities - how would you make reading exercises more interactive and challenging than the simple 'locate and underline' type exercise? ... etc

That said, I'm a bit out of touch with Turkey's language schools etc ... and did nothing more than submit a CV for the school I briefly worked in ... and have a chat for the University post ... but I've a feeling the universities are taking it a little more seriously these days ...

For many of the, shall we say, less pernickety schools, if there's cash involved, it's all about bums on seats ... so if you don't look or behave as though your going to frighten the students to death ... you''ll be fine ...

If the interviewer knows you are a newbie then they should be nice to you. They will ask you a language awareness question, as the sheik said, how do you present the simple present? what controlled practice activities do you use, freer stage, etc. They might ask you any favourite warmers, vocab activites, materials and be able to clearly explain them. You might be asked how you would deal with a difficult question....the list goes on, it really depends on the interviewer.

Personally, I take a Dogme approach to interviewing. I'll start off with general chit chat and 'tell me about yourself' and take it from there.
Good luck
