Do you want to teach in Primary or Secondary?
You can give it a try but remember that in primary not only will you be expected to teach language you will need to know about reading and phonics and be able to hold PD sessions for your local colleagues.
You are the 'expert' and will be treated as such so you need to be able to make a contribution to helping to raise the level of literacy in English in the school. |

Well I have a 3 year degree in TESOL and not just a CELTA, so I am well trained in ELT, So do you think that'll be enough or as I am post degree experienceless will they just simply tell me to gain some experience?
Also, I dont mind whether or not Primary or Secondary, whats less competitive? |

I suggest you look on the emb.gov.hk website and look for the links to the NET scheme and there you will find the qualifications and experience you will need.
If you are interested I suggest you apply anyway. They are having problems recruiting NETs so there is always a chance. I would also apply for both if you don't mind which you get. As a SNET you will be treated just like another member of staff and be responsible for teaching all the English to certain classes, as a PNET you are attached to the school and usually just teach one or two classes to a number of levels ( around 24-28 periods a week).
You will be at the bottom of the salary scale without experience - around HK$17000 but you also get HK$12950 as living allowance and that is usually better than anything you could earn at a language school |
