Hi. I'm currently in my first TEFL job in Prague post-CELTA. I have a Masters degree (unrelated field to TEFL) and will have nearly one year teaching experience (incl. Business English) in Prague before leaving (being poor stinks). If I'm interested in Japan, what kind of English school should I be looking into over there? Would I be able to teach only adults in-company? Any picky/reputable schools that you know about that I could look into? Any big city would be preferable. Thanks. Ciao!

This should be posted in the Japan forum, but I'll give it a go.

Maybe it's just your wording, but there isn't much choice on what type of school for you. You are qualified to teach in only 2 venues: conversation school (eikaiwa) or JET Programme.

Perhaps, but many eikaiwas cater to adults as well as to kids. You'll have to do a lot of searching to find a place that only has adults.

Again, a choice of wording confuses me. Picky schools??

As for reputable ones you should look into, that depends on one major factor -- are you going to be able to come here to job hunt, or will you hunt from your home country? Looking from Prague will practically land you nothing. Coming here gives you the most opportunities, and prime hiring season is this month. I mention looking from home because about a dozen places recruit teachers from abroad and sponsor work visas, and they do so only in native English speaking countries.
