Hi, it's my first time to write a topic and it's really a call for advice/help with my current situation.

I'm in my late twenties and I live in London with my Turkish girlfriend who has been nannying here for the past 3 years. We're crazy about each other and are thinking to get married. The only problem is that her visa expired over a year ago, and technically she is illegal. Now she wants to return to Turkey as she hasn't seen her family for nearly 2 years. Obviously she wants me to come with her, marry her there, then go back to England.

I'm an experienced and qualified English teacher, so I could do some Tefling for awhile. But I really don't want to do that long-term. Does anyone have any experience with marrying a Turkish person then trying to get them to come back to your home country? How long does it take after getting married, to get a visa? Any idea? What should I do? To make matters worse, one of my close family members works for immigration intelligence!

Oh dear another one who fell in a deep puddle of woe and poo.The bottom line is mate coz she is illegal getting her out the country is gonna be the easy part but getting her back in now thats a totally different tray of eggs ,unless she has some talent or skill thats in demand back home I think you chances are pretty slim.Much better off tying the not over here getting her banged up and then sit back and go with the flow .If she goes back to good ole Turkiye thats good bye thank you and good night . Sadly she won't be able to marry anyone else damaged goods and all that so you're on top if you have any sense stay there .

How long it takes will depend on a whole lot of variables. Pre-9/11, I married my hubby February 3. His papers came through November 10. That was for Canada. On the plus side, it's a lot less likely she's a terrorist, so you've got that going for you.

Inshallah, there are others from your country who can post more relevant information for you. I didn't want that other post to be the only response on here.

Broadly generalizing, I would expect to wait at least 10 months before being able to take her back to England.

IMHO you need advice from people who really know the law.
Get in touch with Immigration Advisory Service.

Thanks, I've tried to immigration advisory service but they never seem to pick up the phone. I'm just worried about the authorities being upset that she overstayed her visa and not giving her a fair chance.

On the plus side, we're crazy about each other, and if we have to spend some time in Tureky, it could be a welcome break from Chavland.

Hi there

There's a website called English Girlfriends of Turkish Men which has lots of visa and marriage information - main focus is info on getting married in Turkey, and then visas for England - they keep it really well maintained. Might be a bit weird going on there given you are an English man, but the info is all very relevant to you. Address is: http://www.egotm.com/ if you look down the left hand side you'll see the relevant links.

There are a couple of members on there who are English men, so if you do feel the need to actually join up and post, don't be shy....

Good luck!

the worst thing about this, is that I USED to be an English teacher. I've now successfully TERMINATED that career, but it looks like I'll be forced back into it - I'll have to give up my job, family and country ... all for a perfect romance. Worth it? I bloomin hope so.

Thanks Brissy girl, I'll check the site out.

Well... well... well... I'm a 27 year-old- woman who came to Turkey as a tourist... met a guy, left averything behind, it was a "perfect romance", we got married and now, three years latter, we're separated, broken-hearted and I'm waiting for my divorce papers... worth it?? Hard to tell... in the beginning everything looks perfect... in the end?? Only God knows...
