Just to let you all know that there's a new charge in effect when registering your visa (tourist or business). This replaces the old system of (eventually) getting it done for free, though it probably still involves just as much waiting around.

Admittedly, it's not extrotionate at only R1 per day (for now) of residency but it's worth remembering to take some change along to the OVIR if your sorting it yourself. Don't be surprised when the clerk demands some payment, if you do your sums correctly then there's no chace of being fiddled. It's probably still worth having a few extra days on your visa in case your are held up, a few roubles extra might save you hassle should the unexpected happen. You'd have to have a really stingy employer for them not to foot this one!

If it pleases you (and your Russian is up to it) then pay it under protest and grudgingly. Alternatively pay it in 5 kopek coins.
