hello,
i've been reading through the posts and it seems like chile has a good esl job market right now. i just posted a general question on the latin america branch, but wanted to know specifically in chile how easy it is to get a job teaching esl at the university level, or adult college level. i've taught for 4 years at a uni in korea, and i'm now teaching at one in shanghai. i have a B.A. in English from an american university, but i don't have a master's degree. is it possible to get a job at a university or college without a master's?
most people on this forum recommend just showing up in places like santiago and finding a job on the spot, but i was wondering if its different with the universities? i'd prefer to find a job before coming, and sign a contract. i assume most of the universities do this. i assume santiago would be the best place to find a job, and although i know the pay is not great anywhere in south america, i'm not in it for the money. (even shanghai uni's only pay about 400-500usd month.) i'm looking for a job that pays enough to live comfortably on, 20 hours or less a week, free or subsidized housing, health benefits, and a month or two holiday a year. and most importantly for me is having the experience of living in a country for a few years with a satisfying and stable teaching job.
so, is chile the right place for what i'm looking for? can i find those univesity jobs without a master's? and how do i go about finding them on the internet. any contact info would be great. nature girl's list of contacts is extensive, but i didn't see information about universities. anyone have contact info for finding university jobs in chile? thanks in advance.
