Would it be possible, on a NoVA salary for instance, to buy nineteenth century or early twentieth century 'floating world' prints? Just asking. Man y thanks. |

That's a bit of a strange question to ask. I suppose it depends what you like spending your NOVA salary on...
I think what you really want to ask is how much genuine ukiyo-e woodblock paintings cost.... And that's nearly an impossible question to answer. Like any artwork, much depends on the era, artist, condition and many other factors.
But as a ballpark figure, count on spending a minimum of $1000 for a cheap, modern print. $2000 and up would be something respectable by a minor, but known artist. Famous artists and prints will easily fetch prices of over 10,000.
EBay UK has a guide on how to purchase ukiyoe here:
http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Antique-Japanese-Woodblock-prints-Ukiy-apos-oe_W0QQugidZ10000000000104560
It's not in depth or anything, but may be a starting point.
Have fun. |
