Hello all!
So, I've noticed many forums about EF the teaching institute, but many of those forums were very old and maybe things have changed, possibly advanced and improved recently?
What is the company like now?
Pros and Cons of working for them?
If anybody could shed their opinion about EF, Guangzhou or more specifically EF in Guangzhou that would be awesome~
Thanks! |

I speak withotu the benefit of having worked there but I knew someone who did until early this year.
He was quite happy working for them initially. At this point I must add that he was a total newcomer. Though a newcomer with tremendous teaching skills.
Half-way into his one-year tenure he began to complain about the tactics used by EF in luring FTs. The pay was promised to be "good" and amounting to "150 kuai an hour".
Then he found out that this amount was only paid per every 60 minutes, and since a class never lasted 60 minutes he lost out. The actual wage was 100 per lesson. His breaks were not remunerated - but that is by no means unique to EF; in Guangzhou most training centres treat you that way.
Whether you find this acceptable or not - you seldom have an alternative (there are some). Otherwise, he enjoyed teaching there though he also said his colleagues showed early signs of ageing due to high stress levels. I quite believe that. Teaching at private training centres in Guangzhou is pretty stressful. |

Roger wrote, "Half-way into his one-year tenure"
It took him 6 months to figure what he was getting paid?
And, "showed early signs of ageing"
What were the signs?
And, "Teaching at private training centres in Guangzhou is pretty stressful."
Quite a generalization!
I'm in my third year at a private training center here in GZ.
Don't believe I've ever had such a low stress job.
Others I know at other centers seem to feel (pretty much) the same way.
It seems to me that Roger's role here is often to scare prospective teachers away. Which is OK by me, who needs the competition. |
