I just wanted to know if a serious career in ELT can be made in Italy! I mean most jobs only offer contracts for 8/9 months so for the summer there will be no income! Are there any schools (apart from International schools!) that will offer a full year contract with benefits such as pensions, sick pay etc??
If you end up working for the same school for a number of years, will pay increase!
Please help and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
The reason I ask is if ELT is a sesonal job in Italy, I'll try my luck in Taiwan!!
Grazie mille per i vostre risposte!

Presuming that you are an EU member citizen, you could look into the regular university systems. Many unis have language departments. In most cases, however, a minimum MA in a relevant subject would be required.
Otherwise, the private language school market is staffed by people for whom the job is relatively temporary - a year or two is enough. So long as there is an abundance of teachers who fit in this category, there's little need to hire full time staff and offer benefits.
In a private language school, it's generally just the Director of Studies who gets such a package. To become a DOS usually requires fairly extensive experience, hopefully actual training, and (very often) connections.................
In terms of general-market jobs (of course there are a few lucky flukes out there) these are about the only ways to get into 'regular' positions.
Of course, if you're from ouside of the EU, there's basically no chance to walk into a regular contract inside the EU. |
