I spent 8 months in Stendal, Sachsen-Anhalt as an exchange student. There I got my Mittelstufe II. I've been away from Germany for 2 years now but really want to go back. I'm considering doing an MA in ESL at the University of Minnesota. I've been reading what people are saying about the ESL certificate options and how much competition there is for jobs. Does anyone know if the MA background might give me an edge? I really want to go back to Germany for an extended period of time but I want a clear view of what I might be in for. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful!

I think having an MA will make it easier in Germany. It might be easier to get a job at a uni if you go for teaching "Amerikanistik", ie American Studies.

Unfortunately, I am not America. Perhaps I could teach "Kanadieristik"? (Just joshin). Thanks for the reply, like I've told others, I'm getting lots of conflicting messages but all the info is helping me make a decision.
Thanks again. Lynden
