Anyone have experience with the job market there? For being the third largest city, you don't hear much about it? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi, I lived in Valencia for a year and there's plenty of work in academias teaching kids. The problem is that no one really advertises. You have to just go round all the schools and ask for work. The best time to go is at the beginning of September.

What kind of teaching job are you looking for?

Hi Eloise,

I am glad someone responded, although everyone from valencia is probably on holiday. I will be taking my Celta in August and going from there so I guess I am looking for any work. I though it might be fun to try a different route from Madrid vs. Barcelona. How easy is it for americans to get works there? Madrid seem very accepting while the vibe I get from people in BCN is that they are most stringent on illegals. Curious what the vibe is in Valencia.

I'm sorry, I don't really know what the deal is with American teachers. There weren't any working at my school although there were plenty in Valencia. I suppose it depends on the school and whether they're willing to have you work there illegally or try and sort out your documents.

If I were you I'd try sending my CV to some of them now and see what they say. You can look on the web at www.paginasamarillas.es and look up as many language schools as you can. A lot of them will be having intensive courses at the moment so they should be there now. August will be dead though.

Good luck!

Don't mean to discourage you but my ex-gf had a nightmare of a time in Valencia as she was from the USA and illegal and most of the teachers that I knew there were legal with EU passports. She ended up commuting to academies in the satellite towns where she found work. It is doable but you'll need to be thick skinned and prepared for setbacks. Valencia is a much better place to live than Madrid/BCN but the teaching pool is a lot smaller.
